Our God is an Awesome God

Authentic devotion to sublime wisdom beings is the jet fuel of our path.  It gives shape to our deepest longing, and makes a bridge to the blessings of Lama and Lineage.  We belt out “Our God is an Awesome God”, as nontheists, and don’t have a problem with this.

From a recent Facebook post by t.k.:

“Spiritualized fawning is not a quality that can survive self observation – neither is alienated anti-emotionality. Both are quickly seen to be deformities of true human maturity. At this point, one is mature enough to understand the place of devotion in spiritual life.
Devotion has nothing to do with dependency, has nothing to do with sentimentality ……. it is the flower’s turning toward the sun. It is the natural love response to what is most beautiful.
Devotion has its highest reality when the embodied being moves through the phases of I and Thou …. to No I only Thou …. to No I No Thou Only Silence wherein appearance is held in-as-of the tenderness of unborn/undying divine wisdom.
Silent awareness meets appearance as lover and beloved’s union. Silence knows appearance as Love’s song. True devotion unlocks the hidden alphabet of appearance revealing every atom as incarnation of divinity.”

Ego is not a thing

Identity is not a thing, self is not a thing, ego/I is not a thing – to be gloried in or overcome, that is simply the grandiose narrative of conceptual confusion. Rather it is, quite simply, the process structure of misunderstanding.

Non-virtue habit is the binding glue of that misunderstanding called identity – the actionality created by a false consciousness – a black hole of misapprehension, misconception, misconstrual, misinterpretation. Non-virtue emerges as the desperate effort to preserve an illusion.

At that point of mysteriousness where the confusion called existence and the confusion called non-existence cease ……….. Right there things are liberated from their thingness; appearance is liberated from the tedium called ‘beings’ and the banality called ‘Buddha’.

Untouched by concept’s binding glue perceptivity naturally and immediately knows the aggregates to be empty and the elements to be void. The mandala that fixates and the mandala that is grasped are both resolved in suchness.

If you can simply refrain from participation in conceptuality’s odious insistence then Buddha Nature’s marvelously illuminating wisdom renders everything clear simple. Things known again (re-cognized/recognized) in their suchness – are freed from thingness, free from existence, free from non-existence, free from Being, free from not-being.

While this open clear awareness is the always, everywhere and everywhen of appearance the body mind can only come to its realization when one has moved from non-virtue habit to virtue habit. It is there that one can leap over the confusion called habit into stainlessness. – t.k.

This profound mystery…

Our own Original Innocence and Bright Virtue, as a singularity, are called Buddha Nature. Utterly devoid of any trace of objectivity it is equally devoid of any trace of subjectivity. This profound mystery is silent purity, bright glory. It is unmoving yet everything that moves is not other than it. It accomplished nothing and is useless, can not be used, can not be commodified, can not be owned, bought, sold, given or prevented.

This bright silent pure mind of yours is right there and there is no way to miss it and yet is missed by almost all because their mind’s are fixated on the stuff of their hearing, seeing, touching, thinking. Cutting free of all concept, both beings and buddhas are laid in their grave ….. ways, paths, methods evaporate like mist in the morning sun. Seeing, hearing, touching become the radiance of freedom’s spontaneity. – t.k., conversation on Rinzai’s true man of no rank

The problem is not stress but meaninglessness

It is not stress that drains life from us. That is a ruse designed to sell the accouterments of an endless, fruitless and failing effort at stress reduction. The problem is not stress but meaninglessness. And what is deadly is the combination of the two. Stressful meaninglessness and meaningless stress.

We are a culture built around consumption rooted in impossibilities. A life free from stress, a life free from struggle. We are a culture of “the weekend”, retirement, the holiday, time off, entertainment, stress reduction. We fixate on solving the problem of meaninglessness’ ache with distractions and momentary comforts.

In this endeavor we trade joy for fun, nourishment for entertainment, meaning for the fretful attempt at stress free living. Because we have lost touch, culturally, with what is meaning-full, a life centered on the hard work and the struggle inherent in actualizing and expressing The True, The Beautiful and The Good we seek distraction from ourselves in ever more aggressive pablum.

In truth human beings thrive on challenge and the creative response to challenge. The efforts and stresses of a noble work life, good life, with creative demands …. and the hard work of encountering and overcoming the obstacles to wisdom realization and the benefit of beings is tiring but also ennobling, enriching, nourishing and directly connects us to the inherent meaning-fullness of reality. – t.k., a small bit from a teaching on meaning and stress (follow Traktung Khepa on Facebook)

From Darkness to Light. From Untruth to Truth. From Death to the Deathless.

Human beings are a finite infinitude. We discover ourselves to be the part and the whole at once, consciously. We are water molecule and we are the flowing of the river, we are human and we are divine  ….. and we are capable of knowing this, living this knowledge. Spiritual Realization is to Make Real this lived understanding in the continuum of our existence. We are born to know it. It is our true and unique function and purpose of being. It is Why We Are. And it is this paradox of being finite, a single life, a moment, a cresting wave and also infinite, eternal, the whole of the ocean that is our glory and our torment.

The cow in its field, chewing its cud, does not wonder why they exist. They do not feel angst, torment, over approaching death. And this is a great ease to them. It is the state which drug users and meditators who grasp to quietude long for. The question of meaning does not plague cows. Sometimes we envy the animals. Their contentment, their ease. Sometimes in our sufferings we try and be like them, we try and forget what we know, the question that torments us ….. drugs, drink, television, Youtube, religion, social hierarchy all conformism and consolation act as an opiate lulling us to sleep. Numbing entertainments – the opiate of the masses.

Our capacity to know that there is a possibility far beyond what we seem to be living. Our need to understand the question of meaning in the face of death. This is the plague that touches every life and is both our torment and our glory. It is our glory because it opens the door of divine transcendent possibility. It offers the possibility to discover that we are indeed much more than we are taught, we are much vaster and deeper than a shallow consumer society whose aim is a sleep walking life.

We cannot be satisfied with being merely the wave, merely human. And this is precisely because we are not. Our longings are the budding new growth of divine wings. Our torment is over being confined to a tiny box to small far. The ocean cannot be happy limited to the size of the wave and lost in forgetfulness of its immense reality.  Neither can we.

This torment opens a pathway beyond the usual fairy tales of ordinariness, college job family death, it is the single greatest gift possible. Caught between the tension of intuiting and not knowing – most people chose to drown longing in the everydayness of mechanical evolution, society, reproduction, shallow consolation and distractions. Concern with fame and shame, gain and loss, fleeting pleasures and pains, and yet the ember of divine longing smolders within us waiting for us to pay attention for a moment. Even a moments attention will allow it to burst into flame.

Come out from the hiding places of societal convention with its nihilistic materialism dogmas, its scientific reductionism religion, its straight jacketed pseudo option politics. Throw off the comfortable bedcovers of sleep and face the challenge of this journey. Wake up into the quest for true wisdom for the knowledge that leads from darkness to light, from untruth to truth, from death to the deathless.
